Music Psychotherapy in NY for
Anxiety, Stress & Emotional Burnout

What if there were ways to feel more grounded, seen, and connected — even in the middle of anxiety or depression — without needing to find the right words right away?

Music psychotherapy offers a different kind of space. It’s creative and grounded in emotional connection and nervous system regulation. Music isn’t just expressive — it’s regulating. Rhythm, tone, and sound can help calm the body and shift your state. This approach draws on insights from polyvagal theory, using music to gently guide your system from survival mode into connection. You don’t need to be a musician. You just need to be curious.

This Isn’t Your Average Therapy Session.

Hi, I'm Matt.

I’ve seen how music changes people. I’ve felt it change me. Have you ever watched a scary movie and tried replacing the soundtrack with a kids’ song? If so, you already know how music can completely shift your feelings—and even how it can activate your nervous system, speeding up your heartbeat and breathing.

After years in therapy myself and a career as a music director for comedy shows, I found a way to combine these experiences into a unique approach: music psychotherapy. I know what it’s like to feel stuck or too anxious to even start the thing you know might help. That’s why I bring creativity, honesty, and humor into every session.

Many of my clients find that music psychotherapy works better for them than regular therapy they’ve tried before — especially when they haven’t seen the results they hoped for.

Whether you’re queer, trans, nonbinary, straight, or simply exhausted by anxiety and comparison, you don’t need to have all the answers to start. As a gay man and a therapist, I offer a space grounded in respect, affirmation, and care. We’ll discover what works for you, together.

If you want therapy that’s more flexible, expressive, and truly your own, music psychotherapy might be the thing that finally clicks.
